Cricket and much more!

Summer camp, Day 1

Shwas leaders were to organize Summer camp for the kiddies with summer setting in so that our kiddies have a fun filled summer with lots of learnings, meeting amazing people! For the first weekend, keeping in mind- our project kids liking for Sachin and Cricket, leaders emphasized to organize a cricket match on Sachin Tendulkar’s Birthday!

The Otherwise discreet ground of Municipal school 7 and 8 was sparkling with laughters and cheers. The kiddies were divided into two teams: Tigers and Lions (Our kids have special fascination for these names, it makes them feel powerful somehow). The Tigers started batting with a festive spirit aiming to score the highest runs with the lions all set to bowl out the tigers! Finally Tigers scored 15 runs in 6 overs with all the wickets down! Bharat with 4 runs was the one to score the highest. Lions, came forward with the spirit to win and won the battle by 16 runs with 4 wickets down! Our lady fighter-bhavna gave an outstanding performance by hitting a six.

Now I understood the overwhelming biggest reason why our kids are so crazy about cricket: Its the F U N the game Gaurantees!

Amitabh Shah, our leader and guide along with Abhi Shah, our mentor and advisor on Yuvas board had got ice creams for kiddies and volunteers to beat the heat. Both of them are so natural with the kids, their energy and enthusiasm infects the kids instantly. They are our super heroes, indeed! It was amazing to me how Amitabh in just 10 minutes – connected with kiddies through his humble n jovial nature , motivated them through stories and set a message in their mind – to stay happy, stay strong and enjoy the spirit of joy of giving !

Circle of Sharing:

Amitabh and Abhi were curious to know the reason what motivated our team to consistently work with the kids and for the kids without any reward and recognition.

Every leader at Shwas had just one answer: Selfless love they got from the kids. This made me believe:

With love we live, to live we love

This circle of sharing kept me thinking ‘what actually made us work on this project without any fundings or rewards or recognition for two and half years?’

I don’t claim I got an answer that day but it was convincing enough, I think. There was not one reason .Infact: Each day we had a new reason. We consider Municipal School to be pious, where the kids teach us -lessons of love and oneness and instil hope for a better and more loveable world. We never saw the kids who live below the poverty line in difficult and overcrowded conditions ever complainting. We wish them the love, peace and dignity they deserve.
