1st Day of our workshop at Yuva Office!

28 May 2012

Today was our first day of wake-up-to-your-dreams-summer workshops at YUva Office. The purpose of these workshops is to develop Leadership qualities in kids, make them aware about their potential, make them realize their dreams and sow seeds of hard work and perseverance in them so that they achieve their goals!

We, volunteers, along with all kids walked from their school till yuva office. It was such a beautiful experience to observe all 35 kids walking on streets, singing songs, cracking jokes, crossing roads, the elder kids handling the younger ones in traffic. If we wished we could have arranged transport for kids. But we thought that it was essential for kids to learn that we don't get everything easily in life, if they wanted free tutions they had to walk an extra mile and also that, they wont be getting any extra facilities from the volunteers. Also, it would allow us to screen out only those students who are serious about these workshops. Luckily, none of the kids dropped out and everybody joined.

After the kids settled down in the office, four dedicated volunteers who are studying Law and interning at Yuva introduced themselves to the kids. They screened motivational videos showcasing life-stories of world champions in the field of sports. The kids were glued on their seats throughout! After the audio-visual session during the circle of sharing we realized that a few kids understood the life-stories of heroes but were not able to get the moral or values that a particular story highlighted, there were two or three kids who could remember only 1 story out of 7 stories, there were a few who understood the morals very well and there were a few who had their opinions and perception and learnings which even volunteers dint think of.

This session helped us figure out the thinking process and potential of our kids. How each child is different. The kids were asked to rethink about the stories they saw and discuss with their friends and share with all of us tommorrow!M just looking forward to tommorrow's circle of sharing :)
